Like many child products, car seats are not meant to be handed
down as they wear over time, they should be broken down and recycled, right?
Still, many products, car seats included, are not designed and manufactured
with recycling in mind. With millions of car seats purchased annually, Clek is
committed to reducing the number of the seats they’ve built from ending up in
landfills and incinerators.
“We are committed to giving back to our environment,” Says Chris
Lumley, Founder of Clek, ”We believe that as the producers of Clek products we
should be responsible for the lifecycle of everything we make and put into the
world.”
"It starts with Clek's design process and continues through to the
consideration and selection of the materials we use in our seats and ensuring
that every component of our products can be either reused or recycled.” By
adopting a cradle-to-cradle strategy means that Clek is among a growing number
of companies to endorse the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). EPR is a
policy tool that goes beyond manufacturing to consumer usage to waste management.
EPR is a set of principles that engage brand owners to become responsible for
the entire lifecycle of their products, mainly the recycling of the products
and assuming all or part of the economics involved with recycling, which shifts
the financial burden from municipalities to the producers.
Crocodile Baby Store has partnered with Clek collecting the car
seats that will be taken to the disassembly and recycling or reintroduction of
the plastic, metal, foam and fabric components into other products.
